Summer Nostalgia

It is Friday and that means lawn day for many of the yards in my neighborhood. The constant buzz of the lawnmowers is followed by the moan of the blowers and an occasional zap from string trimmers. It is only 11 a.m. and this will go on all day.

It makes me long for the days of the push mower. Where the sound of lawn beautification was a simple rhythmic whir. Back then screen doors were wood framed. They made that wonderful phwap noise as they slammed shut while kids ran in and out till the sun went down. There was no screaming white noise of lawn primping. Remember that? The sound of summer?
